T-shirts that say "gay? fine by me." Basically it's a public display of ally-ship. Not a fundraising activity, but could be a part of Day of Silence?

Basically, a woman goes on Dr. Phil to talk about her son's transition from male => female and lays the smackdown on two "scientists" from Focus On The Family. It's awesome. (And if anyone could find a longer clip, that'd be rad; I don't really feel like trawling YouTube right now :P)

I originally found the clip here, if you're interested in reading the short article that accompanied it.

There's some good and some bad.

First, the bad.
-Ricin attacks threatened against 11 gay bars in Seattle. Let's just be clear for a minute, this is terrorism. By definition. The first link has more on that.
-Nine men get ridiculous jail sentences in Senegal.

On to less-awful and even good things:

-Blog for Lesbian Health Day was the fifth. Oddly I didn't see much actual blogging, just posts about an event in a few months, but here's one with discussion in the comments. (Note: There is an ad for a sex toy shop on the sidebar, and if you stray from that exact linked page there is smut on that blog. But if you are over 18 and would like to read some fascinating gender theory, go ahead and poke around. This is me covering my ass, by the way. And the collective asses of Beaverton School District/the GSA/the advisers. Okay enough now. Next.)
-Congress appoints first openly transgender staffer. Woohoo!
-Oh noes, lesbian soup! Props to Campbell soup, anti-props to the bigots (as always).
-If you need more outrage about prop 8, take a gander at some of the thuggery involved.
-We Are Not The Enemy. "A photo blog of LGBT folks working toward full equality."

And something absolutely touching by everyone's favorite, Eddie Izzard: Izzard Gives Private Performance to Terror Victim. Awww. See, there are still good people.

Got links? HIT ME.

Here's a better quality version of the video:

In which Jon Stewart owns Huckabee. (Also, pay attention around 6:15, where Huckabee implies that straight parents are needed so that their kids will conform to society's gender roles with the phrase "training our replacements for society" (slightly paraphrased))

There was an article on the cover of Newsweek that talked about the religious argument for gay marriage. Now I'm sure everyone is sick to death of hearing about this one issue like it's the most important thing, but I thought I'd let you know about this article because I guess Newsweek has gotten a ton of angry letters from conservatives.

In other spheres though, here's an article about men kissing each other in movies. It talks mostly about the kisses in Milk (which I want to see once I'm by a movie theater again) but then talks about other movies like Brokeback Mountain, where straight actors kiss each other for the sake of the movie. I agree with the article, that it's interesting how everyone always wants to know what it was like for straight actors (generally men) to kiss other men, but no one cares about a gay man kissing a woman, or a straight man and straight woman who don't really like each other kissing.

With over 30 contributors, From the Inside Out is a wonderful new anthology about gender, FTM (female to male transgendered people) and more.

Get this for the GSA resource box, y/n?

an interesting article I found

current mood: sick

Young teenagers with extreme gender identity disorder should be given drugs to block puberty so that they don't have to experience distressing changes to their bodies which they perceive to be out of line with their true gender.

So say draft international guidelines issued by the Endocrine Society this week – the first to offer advice to doctors on this controversial issue.
